Inspired by the poem “My God, It’s Full of Stars” by Tracy K. Smith, One Notch Below Bedlam conjures worlds that have their own crazy logic. Starting with arrangements of random objects in my studio, I create a blind contour drawing, then add color and marks, letting the internal logic of the piece dictate my choices. As I work, I often discover creatures lurking in the tangle of lines and color.
