Semaphore goes live!

I'm excited to introduce you to Semaphore, a playful collaboration with the sun and the wind that transforms common utility markers into a signal of joy.

Located just two blocks from the San Leandro BART station, at West Juana Avenue and Clarke Street in downtown San Leandro, Semaphore is an outdoor public art installation on view through June 30, 2022.

Semaphore’s most visible manifestation is thousands of vivid little marker flags. Dig a little deeper, and there’s a story about visual communication, material culture, and the making of meaning.

Semaphore is funded by the City of San Leandro through a San Leandro Arts Commission Arts & Culture Grant.
